Hello,
I have recently upgraded our CAG from 4.2 to 4.5.6 Standard, everything is working fine from a user perspective however if I try and administer the Web Interface site it is not found. Web Interface is version 4.2 and we use Access Suite Console 4.0. As am new to this infrastructure I'm led to believe this could have been a problem before the CAG upgrade. I colleague of mine did mention that there is an order that everything must be installed i.e WI and ASC etc for it to work correctly but I think this is related to the Advanced version of CAG.
My question is, if the CAG has been upgraded from 4.2 to 4.5.6 is there anything else (Other than the Administration Tool) that needs updating and also would upgrading the ASC and WI to the latest versions mean a complete new install and that settings/configuration will not be saved?
Many thanks for any help people can provide :)
Chris

I think I know what your talking about.
I had the same problem,
what I did was connect to the cag through the portal address using IE. (the same place you would have done your upgrade from.)
once logged in there is an option to download the Access suite console,(I think it is on the same page as where you do the cag upgrade from.) once you have done this you will be able to connect to the cag again.
If you try and install the new version on the same server / pc as the old version it will complain asking you to remove the earlier version.
What I did was install it on my laptop first, found that I could connect fine so then unistalled the old version of the server and installed the new.
Hope this is what you are talking about and that it helps.

Hi Vaughan,
Thanks for your reply, I think the client you are talking about is the Access Gateway Administration Tool on the Downloads tab of the IE page. I've downloaded this and removed the old version and that's all fine plus the CAG it's self is picked up in Access Suite Console. My mistake, I should have mentioned I was talking about Access Suite Console for Presentation Server, the problem I have is the Web Interface site is not being picked up after I have run discovery with all the settings correct. I'm not too sure if this was related to the CAG upgrade, I do get an error message of "The RPC server cannot be contacted on server ..." I've gone through a few steps such as putting an extra line in the configuration file to limit it to use .NET1.1 which helped pick up the a site however when I try to manage this I get a message saying it is accessed using Advanced Access Control. Am I right in thinking this is only a feature of the Advanced edition of CAG and not the Standard edition that we have?
Many thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I don't think the issue is related to the CAG. The upgrade was performed on the appliance box which is a separate entity from the WI Server. I am assuming that on you CAG you are redirecting the log on to your WI server. I am in the path of upgrading my CAG too from 4.2 to 4.5.6 so your post is very useful for my future deployment. From what I read on your post the redirection on your CAG is being done correctly because your users are logged in without any problems. If I were you I would concentrate my efforts on troubleshooting the WI Server.
Did you perform an upgrade on the WI server as well?
Alex

Hi Alex,
I've only upgraded the Administration Tool on the WI server. I saved a copy of the original config from the CAG, did the upgrade and then re-loaded the saved config. Users are prompted to download the new secure client and can access everything as before so I would agree the CAG upgrade has not caused the problem. Therefore I'm looking purely at an administration of the WI side, any ideas why I might not be able to see the WI sites? I'm not too familiar with the older versions of the Citrix software we have installed, I believe I am using MetaFrame Access Suite Console 4.0 for handling LogonPoints and such and MetaFrame Presentation Server Admin Snap-in to manage the WI but I'm not sure. WI version is 4.2, if I look in Add or remove programs I see Citrix Access Gateway 4.2 Server and Citrix Access Gateway 4.2 Console, since I have upgraded the CAG will these need updating?
Many thanks,
Chris

Chris,
The WI server from 4.0 to 4.6 has different requirements to get them install. You mentioned you did upgrade the administration tool on the WI Server, there are only two different admin consoles: 1) The Citrix Access Management Console 2) The Presentation Server Console. If you upgraded the first one, it would require to install Windows Server 2003 SP2 and the .NET Framework 2.0 the last one would cause problems with the old version of WI Server. WI 4.0 and below were designed to work with .NET Framework 1.1; when you have both version of .NET Framework in your 4.0 WI, the management console would not contact the site at all. I had a similar issue when another systems administrator installed .NET Framework 2.0 on my WI server. There is a document on citrix that explains you how to workaround that issue; http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX108104&searchID=11393906.
If you upgraded the Presentation Server Console, you were prompt to install JRE 1.5.09 but that console would not control the WI Server.
I will try the citrix article I am referring you here and if that would not work, I will Google issues of WI PS4 with the new Citrix Access Management Console.
But if you let me suggest; if you already upgraded the Access Management Console why not upgrading the WI it self, 4.5 is compatible with your old farm, if fact you can actually host both farm in the same site and your users would never see a difference but that is just me.
I hope that helps you out,
Keep us post,
Alex

Hi Alex,
I think this is the problem, the Citrix article you have pointed me to was the one I tried the other week which allowed me to see one site however we use WI 4.2 not 4.0 and Access Suite Console for Presentation Server 4.0 to mange the site. I haven't upgraded any of this, it might have been the case that before I arrived in this job that someone had installed SP2 and .NET 2.0 and 3.0 which are both installed on the server. If I try and manage the one site that has appeared I get a message saying that "This site is accessed using Advanced Access Control. The workspace control settings are applicable if the site is configured as a home page for a logon point. If not, the Advanced Access Control workspace control settings apply. Do you want to continue?" Not quite sure what this means, I thin kit is looking like an upgrade of the management console and WI software is needed, however I believe this means I have to do the configuration of the sites and access controls again....
Cheers,
Chris

Chris,
I am sorry for not answering before but as I said I am also in the middle of deploying my new 4.5 farm and I got caught up with the work. Regarding to your issue, I wouldn't like to recommend anything for the simple reason that I have not played with WI 4.2 at all, now that we are upgrading we moved from 4.0 to 4.6. I don't want to miss lead you into something that is incorrect and put you into more trouble.
Good luck on your issue,
Alex.
