Over the past 2 weeks I've been getting the following errors.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 10/14/2008
Time: 8:52:13 AM
User: N/A
Computer: WSPRD048
Description:
Application popup: Citrix Client Logon Message : Citrix Presentation Server license acquisition error (500): Unable to acquire a license from (WSPRD048) server. Please contact your system administrator or open Event Viewer for more details.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MetaFrame
Event Category: None
Event ID: 9017
Date: 10/14/2008
Time: 8:52:13 AM
User: N/A
Computer: WSPRD048
Description:
This computer running Citrix Presentation Server will now stop accepting connections. This server is no longer in or could not enter a licensing grace period.

I have been working with Citrix support, but with limited success. It seems that I can correct the issue for a couple days if I change the license server that it's talking to, then back. This recreates the MPS-WSXICA_MPS-WSXICA.INI file and forces the server to communicate with the license server.

The servers are all on Presentation server 4.5 Roll-up 2 with Hotfix PSE450R02W2K3036. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chad

I imagine that the version of Presentation Server is the same as on the license Server e.g. Enterprise? Try using an IP instead to connect to the license Server and test with a telnet to the port (default 27000).

Are you having any other connection based errors in the Event log?
I think also time is a factor are the Servers syncronised?

Yes, the versions of Presentation Server are the same. Enterprise.

Citrix had me try the License server's IP address 2 days ago. I'm hopeful that this will work, but we have had it work for 3 days then lose connection again. I will let you know the outcome is.

Are you having any other connection based errors in the Event log?
No

Yes, Servers are synchronized

Thank you For your Responce!

I had something similar on a client site, so I went belt and braces at it:

Installed R03 + C++ distributable

Installed 11.5 license Server

Redownloaded the license file from MyCitrix

Hope it helps for your issue.

Hi Emil,

thanks for your superfast answer. OK I'll try with HRP 03 ... 11.5 Lic Server and Redownloading LIC-Files doesnt help in my case. But at the moment I am at HRP01 PS4.5, I found no notification about this case in the Update history, but maybe it will help to install the HRP on the 14 Servers... Strange is that on 4 Servers I didnt have this message only on the other 10 (Same Farm same edition) sometimes and after a few minutes after this Event all is ok.

Did you have negativ experiences with HRP 03 or wents all ok?

Best regards

Tom

What I must say additionaly. My License server is connected over VPN (WAN) to the Citrix-Servers, maybe this will cause such problems? But normally, he would go in Grace mode I think...

Interesting, my advice would be to run a netstat on the License Server to see if the Presentation Servers are getting through.  They poll the License Server every two minutes (heartbeat) and refresh every 60 mins.

when I type netstat -a I see all Terminalservers connected to the dynamic generated License Port... No problem from this site.

I have found something strange in the startup_citrix.lic on the License server. When I opened it with Viewer I saw following, when I opened it in Text-Format:

# DO NOT REMOVE THIS COMMENT LINE
# このコメント行は削除しないでください。
# DIESE KOMMENTARZEILE NICHT ENTFERNEN
# NE SUPPRIMEZ PAS CETTE LIGNE DE COMMENTAIRE
# NO ELIMINAR ESTA LÍNEA DE COMENTARIO

The beginning of the first line is very strange?? I have now downloaded a new startup.lic from Citrixwebsite on this seams to be correct. I hope now it would be better...

Maybe this was my problem... I dont know... lets wait and see what the servers says ;-)

But in the LIC from Citrix you see no strange things in first line... I have replaced it, maybe it is from a older version... Also now the LIC-Server is answering another Port. I also thought, that a service is accessing the same port then Citrix Licensing and then get a wrong answer... Lets see. Maybe it will work I dont Know... The Last LIC was fixed to a specific port. It is very strange :-(, and I dont know when this error appears it can be after one day or after 1 Week... When this error appears the next time, I will deinstall and reinstall the complete License Service (and rename the folders). And then I will install HRP3 but I will find this error!

Best regards

Hi there,

We had the exact same problem on one of our Citrix PS4.5 servers last week. After two reboots the problem was gone. Today we have the problem again, on a different server.

We could not find a root cause the last time (after reading many forum posts with different proposals to solve it).

As there anyone out there who can supply us with a cause and fix?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi,

yes it is really a strange problem. I can't find also a solution. Which Hotfix Rollup Package do you have installed?

I tried also to reinstall License and License Server... no success.

Sad

I am contacting now a citrix specialist, I hope he can help me... but I cannot find any Error.

I made also checks with dsscheck and dsmaint... no success.

I am getting crazy with this failure.

Best regards

Thomas
