Hi,

I am trying to create a new server farm during my installation of XenApp.

My first installation attempt of PS 5.0 failed because apparently I did not specify the domain when I entered the username in the Data Store Access screen after the ODBC screen.

Subsquently, when I try to install PS again, I specify create a new farm, but after I enter the credentials in the Data Store Access screen, it asks me to join a new server farm! I specified in a previous screen to create a new farm, and this is asking for a current farm on the back of the failed installation.

How do I get the installation to accept that I want to create a new farm, and not present me with the request to join to an existing farm?

Thanks.

The datastore from your first installation probably still exis and it's trying to joing that farm. What are you using for your datastore? Access, SQL, etc? Use a different database name when you create the new farm.

I am using SQL, on another server. Or I will when it gets up and running.

I specified a different name for the Farm name in the screen called Create a Server Farm, and also used a different data soruce name, although it also says that data source already exists in a later screen. I use Windows authentication. Test Data Source always works. Then it says Date Souce file exists. Irrelevant perhaps though. I always say yes to overwrite.

By the way, where do I specify the database name? Not sure that the options so far handle that. Thanks for your reply, btw.

If you are using SQL you would have initially created a blank databse before you started the initial installation, thats the database name I was referring to. You should just have to delete that database and create a new blank one, then start the installation of Citrix again.

I see, do I create the blank database on the actual SQL server machine, or is it created by the PS installation program? My SQL has no new databases on it. When I try to set up PS, I keep the login default database of Master, and also keep the next field empty that asks for a filename. Is that correct? Thanks.

Well, I hate to say it but it sounds like you modified the master database witch is really not good. You might want to restore the master database from a backup if possible or completely reload your SQL server. I would highly suggest reading through some Citrix documents and read about creating a new farm. Citrix has a fairly decent amount of documentation out there on there sight (admin guides, etc) a little googling and you'll find plenty of info.

Before you start installing Citrix you need to connect to your SQL server and create a new database. When creating a new farm Citrix will not create a database for you. During the installation of Citrix when you create a new farm, in the ODBC wizard, change the master DB drop down and select the new database you created. It will modify that database for use with Citirx.

If your farm is going to be on the small side initially I would suggest using an Access DB initially. You can migrate to SQL after the fact.

Check the link below for Citrix documentation (please just take it as a joke...)

Thanks.

I am trying to install now with SQLserver on the same server and the installation process now gets past this point. However, it now rolls back all the way for some reason. I then ran it with msiexec from the command line and logged 15MB of data, and did see about it not liking the display resolution. I am doing this at home via our old Citrix connection and so will try from the server console tomorrow morning, and see if that works.

I have been trying to install PS on a domain controller and it looks like I can't do that. So I will be demoting the DC to a member server and hope that that gets it installed.
